EDUC 113: Current Issues in Education

Educational issues are pressing concerns in our society. The course will help develop understanding of the background of today's public debates around schooling and will introduce ways in which educational thought and research address big topics.

Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of the course, it is intended that students will be able to:

  1. What does our society expect from schools, and what is the best way for it to organise its schooling to achieve these aims?
  2. What are the broad demands that these debates and issues place upon the practice of educators?
  3. What implications do the changing demographics and cultural mix of Aotearoa New Zealand, and more particularly Auckland, have for education in our country?
